Resafa – Sergiopolis Archaeological City

Resafa is a walled Byzantine city in the steppe south of the Euphrates in Raqqa Governorate. Known as Sergiopolis, it was a pilgrimage centre for Saint Sergius and preserves walls, towers, churches, and huge underground cisterns. Its pale stone against the desert and the scale of its cisterns make it valued by archaeology visitors.

مدينة بيزنطية أثرية مهيبة قائمة وسط البادية السورية، تحيط بها أسوار ضخمة وأبراج ما زالت قائمة، وتضم بقايا كنائس تاريخية وبابًا شماليًا مزينًا بنقوش الكرمة. ومن أبرز أسرارها صهاريج مياه جوفية هائلة كانت تجمع مياه الأمطار وتؤمّن الحياة لمدينة لم يكن فيها نبع طبيعي. 📍 45 كم جنوب غرب الرقة ⏱️ مدة الزيارة: نحو ساعتين 🏛️ العصر: روماني – بيزنطي – أموي
